At the Blue Door we're all about giving our landfill some breathing space, so we gladly accept a variety of household items, safety gear, clothing, toys, bicycles, sports gear, art, memorabilia, and furniture. However, due to space restrictions, and to keep focused on what is needed season by season, we sometimes find we can’t take everything all the time. If you aren’t sure if your item is something we can accept, why not ask the friendly team by dropping an email to manager@thebluedoor.co.nz or call 03 579 4353 to speak to the manager.

If you are dropping off personally, you can park in the off-road parking and bring your items to the inwards collection doors. Chat to a staff member before leaving your donations.

When you donate to the Blue Door, you're not parting with things; you're crafting a new journey for your items, one of sustainable living, and a community bond that's stronger than super glue. You're a hero in The Blue Door's ongoing adventures, and we can't wait to see what joy you'll bring next! Thank you for being a special ingredient in our mission!

Ongoing Projects

  • The Blue Door is a collection point for aluminium can tabs and wine bottle screw caps, which the Lions Club NZ on-sell to raise money for Kidney Kids. A single cap is the equivalent of one second on dialysis.
  • The Blue Door is a collection point for old batteries – if they end up in the landfill substances may leak out and into surrounding soil and ground water.
  • The Blue Door is a collection point for NZ old coins and notes, and foreign coins and notes some of which the Lions Club NZ redeem for NZ dollars and use to fund Heads Up For Kids, a project that funds education programmes for NZ youths.
  • Every year the Blue Door selects brand new donated items suitable for children and passes them onto the Blenheim Lions Clubs and MGC Leo, who giftwrap and distribute to groups such as Womens’ Refuge for Christmas.
  • The Blue Door is a collection point for feminine personal hygiene items working in conjunction with Foster Hope who distribute to young and adolescent females.
